Sandy's Fingerless Mitts

Two fun designs….mix and match.
(c) 2007 Sandy Sitzman/LynneVogel

Sandy just knit these up for fun and I asked if I could write the pattern. Here it is! Happy Knitting.

Important Information:
Size: Women’s Medium

Yarn: Sandy used her light worsted weight handspun. (of course you can use storebought too...or a combo) Approx 200 yards of yarn in various colors. Substitute your colors for ours.

Needles: US size 6 (4.5mm),
Gauge: 5 ½ sts per inch, row gauge…knit to fit.

Finishing: one tapestry needle

Note: Sandy knit these as a pair, but if you are symmetrically inclined, make two of the same. Such a twofer…two pairs for the price of one.

Instructions:
Cast on 44 sts. Join rnd being careful not to twist the stitches.

Follow chart beginning row 1. Work from bottom up. See legend below.

At round 44, bind off the first 8 stitches, (you may adjust according to your thumb size). On round 45, cast on 8 stitches at the beginning of the round.
Continue to top of chart. Bind off loosely.

Want thumbs? Pick up around the thumb opening stitch for stitch. Join round. Knit about an inch, decrease by k2tog every 3rd sts all around. Knit to desired length. Bind off loosely.
